The Department of Physics has hired a new business operations specialist, Katarina Jory Miller, an alumna of the Arizona State University–Starbucks College Achievement Plan.

Miller graduated from ASU in December 2020. She completed her degree in anthropology after taking a gap year.

“About the middle of my time at ASU, I withdrew from my classes and took a year off. And then when I came back, I didn’t have my scholarship anymore and so I was looking around for options, and decided to join Starbucks because there was the Starbucks College Achievement program,” Jory Miller said.

“Once the benefits kicked in, I started my ASU Online courses. And honestly, it was pretty exciting, you know, getting school paid for, as well as doing classes. I didn't find the online format too difficult so I enjoyed it, and I enjoyed working for Starbucks.”

“We are looking forward to having her energy around the department — and to having such a great role model around for our students,” said Patricia Rankin, Department of Physics chair.
