Thank you postdocs

The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) is holding the eighth annual National Postdoctoral Appreciation Week Sept. 18–22. Arizona State University's Graduate College is joining the celebration by organizing and hosting a Postdoc Social and series of Brown Bag Talks.

During this weeklong celebration, institutions are encouraged to plan activities that honor postdocs and recognize the contributions they make to research and development in the United States. Last year, 98 institutions in 34 states, Canada and India hosted 350 events to recognize the work of postdoctoral researchers. ASU’s Graduate College is honoring the many contributions to research and teaching made by postdocs at ASU through a series of events.

On Monday, Sept. 18 the Graduate College hosted a mixer for postdocs and their significant others at Culinary Dropout, offering postdocs the chance to network and foster a community at ASU.

Later in the week there will be two Brown Bag Talks from noon to 1 p.m. at the Hayden Library C6A on the Tempe campus. On Wednesday, Sept. 20, Len Fine from Science Foundation Arizona will give a talk titled, “Making the Most of Your Time as a Postdoc.” On Friday, Sept. 22, Brian H. Smith, associate dean and professor of life sciences at ASU will discuss how to transition from graduate school to postdoc life. He’ll touch on interview skills, how to best present yourself, and orientation to workplace realities.
