New digs for Letters and Sciences on Tempe campus
The Urban Systems Engineering Building, circled in red on the map above, is at 651 E. University Drive, at the southwest corner of University and McAllister avenues. The main entrance to advising and the College of Letter and Sciences office is at the northwest corner of the building. Students will find the new location to be a quick walk from the University Academic Services Building, heading east along Orange Mall and then north on McAllister Mall.
If you are looking for your adviser, faculty member or colleague in the College of Letters and Sciences on Tempe campus, beginning Monday, Nov. 23, you’ll find many of them in new digs.
In advance of demolition of the Undergraduate Academic Services Building in December, Letters and Sciences’ base of operations on the Tempe campus is moving to new space in the Urban Systems Engineering (USE) building, at the southwest corner of University and McAllister avenues.
Faculty and staff serving students majoring in interdisciplinary studies, liberal studies, organizational leadership, the Exploratory Program, Writers’ Studio, and University Academic Success courses are involved in the move, as are some College of Letters and Sciences administrative personnel.
“During the physical move, November 16-20, phone service will be unavailable, so email will be the best way to reach folks,” said Lori Bello, executive director of planning and management for the College of Letters and Sciences and University College.
Advisers will be working out of the ASU Memorial Union (MU) on Tempe campus during moving week — in MU 227 Nov. 16, 17 and 18 and in MU 223 on Nov. 20. To schedule an interdisciplinary studies advising appointment during the move, call 480-965-4464.
“We’re excited to begin serving students in our new space next week,” said Duane Roen, dean of the College of Letters and Sciences and University College. “The Urban Systems Engineering building is conveniently located, offers us ready access to additional classroom space and has some beautiful workspaces as well. There are even a few metered parking spots on the west side of the building.”
Demolition of the Undergraduate Academic Services Building will make room for construction of the new Student Pavilion at ASU’s Tempe campus — which will include a 1,500-seat multipurpose venue for music, films, speakers and other events and space for student organizations.

Some College of Letters and Sciences staff and faculty took a break from packing on Friday to formally bid farewell to the Undergraduate Academic Services Building. UASB has housed a number of other units through the years — including Purchasing, Service Learning, Writing Across the Curriculum, the Division of Undergraduate Academic Services, and University Academic Success Programs.

Interdisciplinary studies senior lecturer and poet Kelly Nelson marked the college’s last day in the building with these words. The Undergraduate Academic Services Building has been the home for some College of Letters and Sciences and University College personnel for more than 20 years.
