West Valley Symphony returns to ASU's West campus
The West Valley’s premiere musical ensemble makes a return visit to Arizona State University’s West campus at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 for a concert featuring guest violinist Katherine McLin, as well as a performance of Beethoven’s most recognizable work, his Fifth Symphony. The 70-member West Valley Symphony has been making regular appearances at ASU’s West campus, and drawing large, enthusiastic audiences.
McLin will perform the “Concerto for Violin in E minor” by Felix Mendelssohn. A professor of violin in ASU’s School of Music, McLin has made more than 80 appearances as a concerto soloist with orchestras across the country. She currently serves as concertmaster of the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Ohio and, as a member of the McLin/Campbell Duo with pianist Andrew Campbell, has performed in more than 40 states and abroad. McLin is also a passionate educator, having received the Distinguished Teacher award from ASU’s College of Fine Arts.
In addition to McLin’s performance, the program on Oct. 25 will feature the rousing overture to Carl Maria von Weber’s opera “Euryanthe,” along with the powerful and dramatic “Symphony No. 5 in C minor” by Beethoven.
The West Valley Symphony is conducted by Cal Stewart Kellogg. Named the orchestra’s music director and conductor in 2009, Maestro Kellogg continues to be an audience favorite, thanks to his personable style and exceptional talent, leading the orchestra in truly stirring performances.
Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for seniors and $5 for students. They may be purchased online at www.brownpapertickets.com. Tickets will also be available at the door. The box office opens at 6:30 p.m., and doors open at 7 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. performance.
The campus is at 4701 W. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix, with the concert to be held in the La Sala Ballroom of the University Center Building. There is no charge for visitor parking on weekends.
