West Valley Symphony to perform at ASU's West campus

The La Sala Ballroom at Arizona State University’s West campus will host a concert by the West Valley Symphony at at 7:30 p.m., March 22. The night’s program is billed as “Gershwin and Grofe!”

Conducted by Cal Stewart Kellogg, this 70-piece ensemble returns to the West campus to perform symphonic music by American composers. Celebrating its 45th season, the West Valley Symphony will perform George Gershwin’s “Cuban Overture” and his iconic “An American in Paris,” as well as Ferde Grofe’s “Grand Canyon Suite,” which musically evokes the majesty of our state’s prized natural wonder.

The West Valley Symphony is the only professional orchestra based in and serving the West Valley communities. Kellogg was named the orchestra’s music director and conductor in April 2009. Maestro Kellogg continues to be an audience favorite, thanks to his personable style and exceptional talent, leading the orchestra in truly stirring performances.

“ASU’s West campus is the only venue where the West Valley Symphony performs, other than its home location in Surprise,” said Jeff Kennedy, the campus’ artistic director and a faculty member in ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. “We are delighted to welcome the symphony back to campus, and to offer Valley residents this opportunity to see these talented musicians perform.”

Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for seniors and $5 for students. They may be purchased online, at www.brownpapertickets.com. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The campus is at 4701 W. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix. There is no charge for visitor parking on weekends.
