Ongoing construction affects Polytechnic campus commuters

ASU Polytechnic campus commuters can expect traffic delays as the 16-month Power Road Improvement Project is in full swing. The first phase of construction began July 2. Southbound Power Road currently is being restricted to one lane from Galveston Street to Williams Field Road. Although the intersection of Williams Field Road and Power Road – the primary campus entrance – is not restricted at this time, commuters should allow for extra travel time due to the southbound restriction on Power Road north of Williams Field Road.

Additionally, the construction near the public end of the golf driving range will last through Aug. 31. This area of the driving range is located on the east side of Power Road on Williams Field Road. Traffic is being re-routed around the construction area to reach the driving range, as access is still available. Appropriate signage remains in place during the construction, which previously was scheduled to be finished Aug. 13.

The City of Mesa is leading the multi-government agency Power Road Improvement Project that spans Power Road from south of the Loop 202 Santan Freeway to the north side of Pecos Road. Construction includes widening Power Road to three lanes in each direction with a raised median and full intersection improvements at Ray and Williams Field roads.

Information about work beginning on the intersections of Power and Ray roads and Power and Williams Field roads currently is unavailable. These two intersections, however, are primary access points to the Polytechnic campus. Visitors and commuters to the campus are advised to regularly check The City of Mesa Traffic Restriction Alerts and Closures web page for updates. Sun Devils with Facebook and Twitter accounts also are encouraged to find and follow The City of Mesa at “mctraffic.”
