New ASU facilities recognized by Southwest Contractor

Southwest Contractor, a leading construction industry publication serving the Southwest since 1938, recognized the Arizona State University Polytechnic Academic Complex, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism building and the Institute of Religion at ASU building with its annual Best of 2008 Awards at a ceremony, Dec. 2.

The annual competition, now in its 11th year, recognizes construction and design excellence in separate award ceremonies for Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. Over 650 entries were received in the tri-state region, with 260 representing Arizona projects.
 
An independent jury comprised of 11 design and construction professionals selected 22 winning projects in a variety of categories for Arizona.

ASU Polytechnic Academic Complex was recognized as the Best Public “Green” Project, submitted by RSP Architects and DPR Construction Inc. The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism building was recognized for the Best Project Management/Team, submitted by Sundt/HDR/SEA. And the Institute of Religion building was recognized for Best Masonry.

“The public sector projects were particularly strong this year, but all of the winning projects demonstrate the quality of design and construction occurring throughout Arizona” said Scott Blair, editor of Southwest Contractor. “The judges rewarded projects that were innovative, challenging and that benefited the community socially or economically.”

New this year, local winners will move onto McGraw-Hill Construction’s first annual National Best of 2008. The national winners will be profiled in a special section published in Engineering News-Record and all 11 regional construction publications.
