Men's swimming fractionally off school record at Pac-12 Championships

On the first day of the Pac-12 Men's Swimming Championships the Arizona State men's swimming team inked its name in the school records book.

The first day of the championship competition is abbreviated with just two relay races on the schedule. Despite only two events, the Sun Devils found a way to make an impression on day one.

In the men's 200 medley relay, the team of junior David Adalsteinsson, senior Stephen Estes, junior Alex Coci and junior Herbie Behm finished the race in sixth place with a time of 1:28.18, just half a second off the school record time set in 2000. The time puts the relay in the fourth-best time in school history and cracked the 200 medley record category for the first time in almost a decade.

The Sun Devil 800 free relay of junior Ryan Glander, junior Ryan Dignan, sophomore Zac Dalby and Adalsteinsson finished seventh in the race with a time of 6:38.54 and earning 24 points for ASU.

After two events, Arizona State is ranked seventh with 50 points total. Cal leads all competitors with a total of 74 points on day one of competition.

The championship meet, which moved to the Federal Way, Wash., venue after facility issues with the perennial host site of Long Beach, Calif., started earlier than initially planned and followed right after the Pac-12 Women's Swimming Championships. The Pac-12 Championships will now run Mar. 3-5, with the Pac-12 Network television broadcast airing on March 10.
