Law professor comments on Geneva nuclear deal

ASU law professor Orde Kittrie co-authored an op-ed piece published on Nov. 24 in the Wall Street Journal, titled “A Bad Agreement Likely to Get Worse.” Kittrie’s co-author was Mark Dubowitz, executive director of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

The op-ed analyzed the interim nuclear deal agreed to in Geneva on Nov. 24 by six major powers (including the United States) and Iran. The op-ed noted that "the interim agreement fails to bring Iran into compliance with its key international legal obligations as spelled out in United Nations Security Council resolutions."

Kittrie is a leading expert on nonproliferation law and policy issues. Prior to joining the ASU law faculty, Kittrie served for 11 years in legal and policy positions at the U.S. Department of State. As the department's lead attorney for nuclear affairs, he participated in negotiating five U.S.-Russia nuclear nonproliferation agreements and a U.N. treaty to combat nuclear terrorism. He has also testified on nonproliferation issues before both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
