Law professor comments on digital fingerprinting

Zig Popko, clinical professor of law and director of the College of Law’s Post-Conviction Clinic, was quoted in a July 9 article written by Michelle Mitchell in The Arizona Republic.

The article, “Valley police departments utilizing digital fingerprinting,” explores the legality of a new hand-held device that taps fingerprint databases to help police identify people.

“Right now, there’s no authority that can compel a person to put their fingers on one of these gadgets, short of them being arrested,” said Popko.

Popko teaches legal research and is a member of the board of governors of Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice. He also serves as the editor of AACJ's quarterly publication, The Defender. Popko has been a member of the Legal Writing Institute since 2001 and presently serves on its ABA Standards Education Committee.
