Karin speaks at Work Family Researchers Conference

Marcy Karin, associate clinical professor and director of the Work-Life Policy Unit and Civil Justice Clinic at the College of Law, presented at the recent Work and Family Researchers Network’s Inaugural Conference in New York City. She and approximately 800 other academics explored “Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Work and Family.” 

On June 15, Karin moderated a panel entitled, “Legal Dimensions of Work and Family.” During this panel, she presented early research and analysis into the legal theories that support the ability of workers to obtain reasonable accommodations and job-protected break time at work to express milk.

Karin’s second presentation, on June 16, was part of a symposium presentation titled, “War at Work from the Veteran, Business, Researcher, and Policy Perspectives.” She offered commentary on the policy response to the impact of war at work on the military community. Her remarks focused on the web of specific federal employment law protections for various military populations, as well as current initiatives of the Obama administration that support members of the National Guard reintegrating into civilian employment.

Karin teaches courses on workplace flexibility law and policy, employment law and policy, and legislation. She also supervises and instructs student attorneys working on behalf of clients in the Civil Justice Clinic. Karin is an active member of the national work-life law and policy community. She is listed in the Sloan Network’s Who’s Who in Work and Family. Her other research interests include legislative lawyering, civil justice for military families and women’s legal history.
