Holst presents at storytelling conference in London

Associate Clinical Professor Kimberly Holst recently presented at the Fourth Biennial Applied Legal Storytelling Conference in London.

Holst’s presentation, “Telling the Difficult Story: Challenges That Arise in Client Advocacy,” discusses how alternative narrative styles, like symbolism, point-of-view and non-linear narrative, may be used to effectively advocate for a client when using traditional, linear narrative fails to represent the client's interest.

She used examples that explore scenarios where the client’s story may have competing purposes, such as creating a narrative that maintains innocence but creates a compelling story for mitigation, if necessary.

The conference was held at City University in London, on July 22-24.

Holst teaches Legal Method and Writing, as well as upper-level writing and skills courses. She has presented to various international audiences about techniques for more effective law school pedagogy and written in the areas of intellectual property law and criminal procedure.
