Hinshaw gives faculty talk in Missouri

Professor Art Hinshaw, Clinical Professor of Law and director of Lodestar Mediation Clinic, gave a faculty talk on Sept. 14 at the University of Missouri School of Law, titled “Law Students, Lawyers, and Negotiation Ethics.”

The presentation compared how three groups of people – 1Ls within the first month of law school, 3Ls within a month of graduating law school, and practicing lawyers – respond to a survey focusing on attorney negotiation ethics. This study builds on Hinshaw’s prior work with co-author Jess K. Alberts, which showed that a surprising number of attorneys would agree to engage in a fraudulent negotiation scheme if asked by a client to do so.

Hinshaw’s research and teaching interests lie in the field of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), primarily mediation and negotiation. He is active in the ADR community having served on several academic and professional committees at the state and national levels. Currently, he serves as a member of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Mediator Ethical Guidance.
