Get in Gear bicycle registration contest begins for spring semester

The ASU Police Department kicks off its fourth consecutive Get in Gear bicycle registration contest, Jan. 27 through March 7.

The contest was created in an effort to prevent theft and to build safety awareness, with bicyclists across all ASU campuses.

Registration is free and can be done easily online, here: https://cfo.asu.edu/bike-regform. Bicycle registration is important for ASU community members as it provides a record of ownership and can aid in the recovery of a stolen bicycle.

“Bicycle registration is designed to help protect bicyclists’ personal property,” said Jim Hardina, ASU Police Department assistant chief. “The contest helps us build safety awareness among the ASU community, but we also ask for you to report any criminal activity.”

The Get in Gear contest starts at midnight, Jan. 27 and runs through March 7. ASU students, faculty and staff are eligible to enter the contest if they have registered their bicycle with the ASU Police Department since Nov. 1, 2013.

During the contest timeframe, two prizes will be awarded each week and winners will be notified via email.

One lucky contest winner will be awarded a grand prize. Since the contest began in fall 2012, all three grand prize winners have received iPod nanos. Weekly Get in Gear contest prizes include:

• bicycle safety kits
• ASU-branded shirts
• gift cards for Sun Devil Campus Stores and local retailers
