Flu vaccines available for students, employees

Flu vaccines are available in October for students and employees at all of ASU’s campuses.

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness that results in mild to severe illness, represented by fever, chills, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches and fatigue. A healthy adult can infect others a full day before symptoms develop and up to seven days after that.

Besides getting an annual flu vaccine, additional tips to stay healthy include washing hands with soap and warm water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Avoid close contact with people who are ill and cover your cough or sneeze. If you do get the flu, see your health care provider as soon as possible to get a prescription for antiviral medication to decrease the impact and duration of your illness. You also should stay home from work or school to avoid spreading the illness.

Tempe campus:

Employees: 7 a.m. - 4 p.m., Oct. 1-3, Memorial Union 236 (Mohave)
Students: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Oct. 21-23, outside of the Memorial Union

West campus:

Students: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Oct. 7 and 17, Nov. 1, Sands Breezeway
Employees: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Oct. 8, University Center, rooms 265-266

Polytechnic campus:

Employees and students: 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., Oct. 9, Student Union Cooley Ballroom C

Downtown Phoenix campus:

Employees and students: 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., Oct. 10, University Center 822A

To receive a free flu vaccine, employees must show both a valid Arizona issued employee insurance card and an ASU Sun Card. All benefits-eligible ASU employees may receive a flu vaccine and non-benefits eligible employees may receive a flu shot for $18 (cash or check only). Employees’ family members, retirees, student employees, graduate assistants and other students are not eligible to receive a free shot through this program. Vaccines are given on a first-come, first-served basis as long as the supply lasts.

Students may receive a flu vaccine with their ASU Sun Card and an insurance card. Students without insurance may charge the vaccine to their student account. Tempe campus flu vaccine clinics cannot accept cash. Cash is accepted at the Tempe Student Health Center and health centers on the other campuses (excluding Polytechnic) where the vaccine will also be available.
