Expert discusses environments that organize learning

Students, educators and community members are invited to a free lecture focusing on environments that organize learning as the formative anticipation of possible futures.

The guest speaker is international education expert Kris D. Gutiérrez, professor of literacy and learning sciences and Inaugural Provost’s Chair at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Sponsored by Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, her talk is scheduled from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Oct. 30, in Payne Hall, room 129, on ASU's Tempe campus.

The understanding of designing for new futures will be animated in discussion of social design experiments, studies of the everyday lives of middle class families, the social organization of new media practices in Latino families and learning in formal and informal ecologies. Gutiérrez also will address participating in environments that make available new tools and practices that help organize new trajectories for youth from nondominant communities.
