Experience environmental science at the ASU Colleges at Lake Havasu City
The ASU Colleges at Lake Havasu City is hosting a two-day workshop for interested students to learn more about the field of environmental science.
As concern for the environment increases, environmental science careers are expected to grow and environmental scientists will be increasingly in demand. This event is a unique opportunity for interested high school and college transfer students to explore the life sciences degree field and get a sense of ASU in Lake Havasu City.
From May 2 through May 4, participants will gain hands-on experience and practical skills by performing water quality checks and conducting plant sampling at the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, and they will meet current environmental science students.
Those interested in the environmental science workshop can read more about it and register online at: https://visit.asu.edu/previewhavasu. The registration deadline is April 22 and a $75 registration fee includes all meals, activities and two nights lodging for students.
“ASU at Lake Havasu is a great place to study both terrestrial and aquatic ecology. Our local economy is dependent upon recreation, we are surrounded by protected lands, and the area supplies water to millions of Arizona and California residents. Our program focuses on environmental sustainability and practical skills necessary to manage unique resources like Lake Havasu,” said Kerrie Anne Loyd, an ASU life sciences faculty member in Lake Havasu.
The ASU Colleges at Lake Havasu City opened in fall 2012 and offers four high-demand bachelor's degrees in addition to life sciences (environmental science). They are: communication, general studies, psychology and organizational leadership.
Students who enroll full time at the ASU Colleges at Lake Havasu City are awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Havasu Foundation for Higher Education. When scholarship funding is applied, the Lake Havasu City location is an even more affordable college option. Tuition and fees (with scholarship) for 2013-2014 are estimated to be $5,400 per year (in-state) and $8,400 per year (out-of-state).
Anyone with questions about the environmental science event is encouraged to contact Kerrie Anne Loyd, Life Sciences Faculty at k.loyd@asu.edu or 928-854-9718.
