Celebrate women's health during National Women's Health Week
Some months there is just too much to do. As a result, it is easy to let important tasks like getting a regular health checkup slip through the cracks. To remind women (and the people who love them) to make their health a priority, the Office of Women’s Health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will hold its 14th annual National Women's Health Week, May 12-18.
The weeklong health event kicks off on Mother’s Day and is followed on May 13 by National Women’s Checkup Day. During the week, women are encouraged by events in their communities to improve their physical and mental health and lower their risks of certain diseases by not only getting regular checkups and preventive screenings, but also by getting active, eating healthier, paying attention to mental health issues, getting enough sleep and managing stress, and avoiding unhealthy behaviors such as smoking, not wearing a seatbelt or bicycle helmet, and texting while driving.
ASU will observe National Women’s Health Week with three wellnesses classes, specifically for women, set to take place from noon to 1 p.m. at the Memorial Union on the Tempe campus:
• Tuesday, May 14, Make time for ME Time
• Wednesday, May 15, Women’s Heart Health and Research
• Thursday, May 16, Yoga and You
Faculty and staff can sign up for one or more of these classes at asu.gosignmeup.com. More detailed information about these and other wellness classes can be found in the May edition of the Well Devils News for the Tempe campus. The classes are offered by the Office of Human Resources’ Wellness Group, a unit of the Employee Assistance Office.
