Broadway series at ASU contributed $55M to local economy last season
The 2011-2012 PROGRESSIVE® Broadway Across America – Arizona series at ASU Gammage generated more than $55 million of economic impact for Tempe and the Phoenix metropolitan area.
More than 250,000 patrons visited the Broadway series to see blockbuster hits, such as "West Side Story," "White Christmas," and "Blue Man Group," which is why Tempe remains a top touring market for Broadway shows.
Also, the theater had a record-breaking four-week run of "Wicked" which boosted those impact numbers.
During this economic recovery, residents still attended ASU Gammage, and as a result spent major dollars with surrounding businesses including retailers, restaurants, hotels and more. This figure comes from a recent study by the Broadway League on the impact of touring Broadway.
“In a recovering economy these numbers are impactful, and residents are still looking to be entertained while creating memories with their families and friends. Broadway is a perfect way to do this,” says Colleen Jennings-Roggensack, executive director of ASU Gammage.
