'Bring a Book Bash' helps future teachers
The public is invited to join alumni, students, faculty and staff of Arizona State University’s College of Teacher Education and Leadership (CTEL) for its third annual Bring a Book Bash, Tuesday, Dec. 9. The event, from 5 to 7 p.m., will be held in the courtyard of the CLCC Building on ASU’s West campus, 4701 W. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix.
The festive event is designed to celebrate and benefit CTEL’s Teaching Resource Library, which houses texts, literature, and supplemental pedagogical materials for current and future teachers. Beloved children’s book series hero Clifford the Big Red Dog will make an appearance. Student volunteers will provide tours of the Teaching Resource Library, located in the CLCC Building, and refreshments will be served.
A new addition to this year’s event is a Scholastic Book Fair. Books suitable for children from kindergarten through high school will be on sale; proceeds benefit the Teaching Resource Library. Cash and credit cards will be accepted for book purchases.
Attendees are asked to donate a new children’s book to the Teaching Resource Library. Topping the library’s wish list are picture books that address a variety of topics, including occupations, vehicles, disabilities, health and nutrition, geography, history, art, and the environment. Among specific titles requested are The Three Little Javelinas by Susan Lowell, Arizona Facts and Symbols by Emily McAuliffe, and Lizards for Lunch by Conrad J. Storad.
All book donors will have their names placed on a bookplate inside their donated books, to serve as a permanent recognition of the donation.
“Every contributed book makes a difference and is greatly appreciated,” says Mari Koerner, dean of CTEL. “This event helps our current students by updating the Teaching Resource Library, while also giving us an opportunity to strengthen our ties with alumni and the community. It’s vitally important to stay connected – to support and encourage each other in our lifelong commitment to making a difference in the lives of children.”
