Barraza speaks at healthcare forum

Leila Barraza, Fellow in the Public Health Law and Policy Program, recently spoke at the American College of Surgeons Surgical Health Care Quality Forum Arizona.

According to an article written for Surgical Products Magazine, the forum featured a panel of Arizona health care leaders from hospitals, medical schools, academic institutions and the government who discussed the implementation and utilization of quality improvement programs to increase the value of health care.

Barraza provided experience from a background in public health and policy law.

“Clinical excellence and quality improvement programs not only result in improved patient outcomes, but are essential for health systems and hospitals today,” Barraza said in her presentation. “These efforts result in a reduction in waste, patient care complications, liability exposure and unsatisfied patients – all positively impacting a hospital’s economic survival.”

Barraza is deputy director of the Network for Public Health Law – Western Region. She was previously a scholar in the College of Law’s Center for Law, Science & Innovation and a research assistant, conducting legal research on autism and vaccine-related litigation.
