ASU nursing faculty members selected as American Academy of Nursing fellows

College of Nursing & Health Innovation faculty members Jennifer Mensik and Adriana Perez are among 168 nurse leaders selected for induction as fellows by the American Academy of Nursing.

The American Academy of Nursing selected 168 nurse leaders for induction during the academy’s 2014 Transforming Health, Driving Policy Conference on Oct. 18 in Washington, DC. Fellowship in the academy is highly selective and is considered one of the highest honors in the nursing profession. Perez and Mensik were selected because of their leadership in education, management and policy, and work to improve health in our country.

“Dr. Mensik and Dr. Perez epitomize leadership in nursing, not only within our college, but in the community as well,” Teri Pipe, dean of the College of Nursing & Health Innovation said. “This represents a stellar level of accomplishment in nursing and health. We will celebrate this achievement and extend our gratitude to both of them for their work and their representation of ASU College of Nursing & Health Innovation.”

Mensik is a faculty associate in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program and is former president of the Arizona Nurses Association, second vice president of the American Nurses Association and a member of the Western Institute of Nursing. Perez is an assistant professor and Southwest Borderlands Scholar. She is also co-director of the Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence at ASU and is president of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses: Phoenix Chapter.

The academy is comprised of more than 2,200 nurse leaders in education, management, practice, policy and research. The academy fellows include hospital and government administrators, college deans and renowned scientific researchers.
