ASU law alumnus wins short-fiction contest

Short story author and Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law graduate Lance Hendrickson was chosen as the winner of the first American Bar Association Journal/Ross Contest for Short Fiction.

Hendrickson’s story, “It’s Legal, There,” traces the fictional case of a woman accused of killing her child two years after the fact. Judges at the contest said the story "reveals with heartbreaking honesty the painful practical advice lawyers must sometimes convey to their clients."

In addition to having his story published in the Journal, Hendrickson received a $3,000 cash prize, which was presented at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 19.

Hendrickson currently lives in Whitehall, Mich. and was raised in nearby Hesperia, Mich. He graduated cum laude with a degree in political science and a minor in English before studying law at ASU.
