ASU to host first sports law and business conference

Issues affecting the future of professional and amateur sports will be at the center of the inaugural Sports Law and Business Conference, March 12-13.

The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, the W. P. Carey School of Business and the Department of Athletics are presenting the conference. It will take place at the Ed and Nadine Carson Student Athletic Center on Arizona State University's Tempe campus.

The conference will examine the regulatory, revenue and reputational concerns within the sports industry. Day one will focus on intercollegiate sports, with day two concentrating on professional sports.

Featured speakers and panelists include: Tony Dungy, former NFL player and Super Bowl winning head coach; Oliver Luck, executive president for regulatory affairs, NCAA; Anthony LeBlanc, chairman and CEO of the Arizona Coyotes; Carl Peterson, former president and general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs; Dave Checketts, CEO, Legends Corporate, formerly CEO, Madison Square Garden; Donna Lopiano, national leader in gender equity in sport movement and president and founder, sports management resources; Richard Lapchick, a leader in the effort to achieve racial equity in sport; and many more.

The Sports Law and Business Program at ASU examines legal, business and ethical issues in the sports industry through interdisciplinary studies.
