ASU Gammage presents participatory theater event 'City Council Meeting' Feb. 16

"City Council Meeting" is an engaging and participatory theatrical adventure created by New York City based writer Aaron Landsman, director Mallory Catlett and designer Jim Findlay. The team visited local city council meetings in San Antonio, Portland, New York and Tempe to create a production that allows audience members to become actors, actors observers and elected officials to do both as the performance takes attendees to the intersection of life and theater. "City Council" plays one-night only at 7 p.m., Feb. 16 with limited onstage seating at ASU Gammage. Tickets are on sale now.

Aaron Landsman makes theater for many kinds of spaces. His work and plays have been commissioned and produced in Oslo, Minsk, New York, Detroit, Houston and Lund. Also an actor, Landsman has performed with Elevator Repair Service Theater since 2004 and appeared in the work of many directors and choreographers. He teaches workshops for artists nationwide.

"City Council Meeting" is part of ASU Gammage’s 2012-2013 BEYOND series, which for 21 years has evolved into a carefully curated series that brings world-class artists into the community. The artists selected present compelling work while connecting with Valley residents through artist residency programs, master classes and public performances. The Beyond series is made possible  Margaret T.
