Abbott speaks at a conference at Yale
Professor Kenneth Abbott, co-director of the College of Law’s Center for Law and Global Affairs, spoke at a conference at Yale University on Nov. 1.
The conference, “A New Architecture for a Sustainable New World,” was co-sponsored by the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
During the conference, Abbott made an argument for enlisting private and pubic-private organizations and standards into these new architectures, but also for the need for public institutions, including national governments and the United Nations, to orchestrate those activities, support them, set minimum standards for them and ensure that they promote publicly-adopted principles and priorities.
A leading scholar in international law, Abbott’s teaching and research focus on the interdisciplinary study of international law and international relations, including public and private institutions, environmental issues, development policy, global health and international trade and economic law.
