$1M Beus Family Scholarship available to LDS STEM, music students
The ASU Foundation for A New American University and Arizona State University President Michael M. Crow have announced a $1 million investment by Leo and Annette Beus to provide scholarships for incoming or community college transfer students who are active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) or music degree program at ASU.
“ASU appreciates the support being provided to talented and deserving students by the Beus family through this scholarship,” said Crow. “As we prepare tomorrow’s thought leaders and change agents, the Beus Family New American University Scholarship will empower students and future professionals to make a meaningful difference in the world.”
The Beus Family New American University Scholarship is available beginning in the 2013-2014 academic year and includes a term of up to eight semesters.
“We are delighted that the Beus family has chosen to offer such a transformative opportunity at ASU to incoming LDS students,” said R.F. “Rick” Shangraw Jr., CEO of the foundation. “Leo and Annette have set a very high bar that will serve our recipients well as they pursue higher education at ASU and eventually fill their roles as tomorrow’s changemakers.”
The Beus Family New American University Scholarship provides up to $15,000 annually with a potential total of $60,000 over four years of study.
“We think ASU is a terrific environment for really bright, gifted LDS scholars, and we hope that folks can take advantage of this great opportunity,” said Leo Beus. “My wife and I are BYU and University of Utah alumni, respectively, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with the administration at ASU. We are profoundly impressed with their willingness to make this a very friendly environment for LDS scholars.”
