Who Benefits from Sun Devil Giving Day?
Here’s Your Answer

Being grateful is easy on Sun Devil Giving Day.
Sun Devil Giving Day is a time for the ASU community to come together and make a difference in the lives of students. If you’ve ever wondered how Barrett students benefit from this day of giving, the answer is simple: your contributions help students facing financial barriers, provide resources for those navigating personal challenges, open doors to global opportunities and so much more.
For students at Barrett, The Honors College, support from Sun Devil Giving Day is often the difference between making progress toward a degree or putting dreams on hold. It’s the reason many students can continue their education despite personal hardships.
Here are just a few examples of how your contributions have directly impacted Barrett students:
- Meredith faced traumatic brain injuries that forced her to leave her job and focus on her health. As she continues to recover, financial difficulties remain a constant struggle. Without the Barrett Student Emergency Fund, Meredith would face homelessness. This fund provides immediate assistance to students like Meredith who are struggling.
Angelina’s first year of college became even more difficult when both of her parents lost their jobs. With no personal laptop, she relied on public computers to complete her coursework, but her Graphic Information Technology major required advanced technology. Thanks to the Emergency Fund, she was able to purchase the necessary equipment and stay on track with her studies.
El works two on-campus jobs to pay for tuition, but with no family support, basic needs like food and medicine remain a constant concern. Although excelling academically and serving as Director of Campus Advocacy, the financial strain caused constant stress. Thanks to help from generous donors, El can focus on education and future goals without the constant worry of financial instability.
Funds raised on Sun Devil Giving Day help students overcome barriers that stand in the way of their success, whether those barriers are financial, emotional, or physical.
Barrett students also benefit from opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom.
For 30 years, Barrett has helped students expand their global horizons through study abroad programs. Donors make these transformative experiences possible for students with limited personal resources. Whether studying marine sustainability in Mexico or conducting research on conservation technology in Costa Rica, Barrett students are able to access global experiences that enhance their academic growth and broaden their perspectives.
Audrey, a biomedical engineering student, is using her scholarship to study conservation technology in Costa Rica, focusing on how bioreactors can advance sustainability efforts.
Ben is deepening his belief in the power of experiential learning. After completing a program in Baja California, Mexico, focused on marine sustainability, he is now studying in the Netherlands, further expanding his global perspective and commitment to sustainability.
Opportunities like these allow students to connect their academic pursuits with real-world solutions, all thanks to the generosity of donors.
Sun Devil Giving Day is not just about giving; it’s about transforming lives.
Each donation, large or small, directly supports the success of Barrett students. On the Barrett Giving page, donors are encouraged to choose a specific fund that aligns with their interests, allowing their contribution to support the areas they feel are most impactful.
The generosity of the ASU community ensures that students have the resources they need to succeed in the classroom, engage in life-changing research, and pursue global opportunities that shape the future.
