Morrison Institute releases 2024 Impact Report

Morrison Institute for Public Policy, Impact Report, 2024

The Watts College-based Morrison Institute for Public Policy has issued its 2024 Impact Report, which it calls a “snapshot of the initiatives, research and achievements that shaped this year.”

The report tells how the institute worked with its collaborators, contributors and community partners “to address Arizona’s most pressing challenges and foster meaningful change.”

That impact includes more than 1,900 mentions in news media, more than 3,500 attendees at more than 50 events and more than 17,000 users of its website.

School of Public Affairs centers that study democracy present election wrap-up

Join faculty members from the School of Public Affairs-based Center for an Independent and Sustainable Democracy and the Mechanics of Democracy Laboratory Jan. 17 as they look back at the 2024 election. They will analyze how much impact Generation Z voters had at the ballot box and how much trust all voters have in the integrity of the election’s results.

The ”Post-Election Wrap-Up” is 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, in the First Amendment Forum on the second floor of the ASU Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, 555 N. Central, Ave., Phoenix, immediately north of the University Center on the Downtown Phoenix campus.

Faculty members Bill Gates, Thom Reilly and Jacqueline Salit, along with student Katie Ritche, will participate in a discussion moderated by Washington Post reporter Yvonne Wingett Sanchez.

Talk to examine how Trump administration will implement new policy

Don Moynihan, Ford School, Public Policy, University of Michigan

Hear Don Moynihan, professor of public policy at the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, in a Jan. 30 ASU appearance where he will examine President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed plans to reorganize government.

“State Capacity and Policy Implementation under Trump: What Happens Next?” is 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, in the Concho Room at the ASU Collaboratory at the former Westward Ho hotel, 618 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, on the Downtown Phoenix campus.

The School of Public Affairs-based Center for Organization and Research Design is presenting Moynihan’s talk.

Moynihan directs his school’s Better Government Lab, which looks for interventions to help government improve access to the social safety net. Click here for more information.

Red Cross, Red Crescent president to speak at Lodestar celebration

The School of Community Resources and Development-based Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation will celebrate 25 years of impact on Arizona and beyond with an address by Kate Forbes, president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, at a special event in February.

Forbes, who early in her career served with the American Red Cross in Phoenix, will speak Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Global Forum of ASU’s Thunderbird School of Global Management, 401 N. First St., Phoenix, on ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus. Doors open at 3 p.m. for the 3:30 p.m. program with reception following at 4:30 p.m.

The event will include community and sector leaders, key stakeholders and program alumni gathering to discover Lodestar’s global vision for its next 25 years of impact, said Lodestar executive director Robert Ashcraft, Saguaro Professor of Civic Enterprise.
