Huston receives PGA Horton Smith award
At the Oct. 27 meeting of the Southwest Section PGA, the Horton Smith award was awarded to Geoff Huston, internship coordinator in the Professional Golf Management program in the Morrison School of Management and Agribusiness at Arizona State University Polytechnic. The Horton Smith award recognizes the PGA professionals in each of the 41 sections across America who are role models for future and current PGA professionals. This award recognizes leadership qualities, strong moral character and service to the PGA Professionals through education.
Huston developed an apprentice workshop program to assist non-PGM students in passing their level 1 materials. This level requires detailed preparation and is a major roadblock for most students, according to Mark J. Black, director of the PGM program at ASU.
“This is a great award for Geoff, and I am proud of his dedication and achievements,” said Black.
The Southwest Section PGA has more than 1,500 members and only one member receives this award each year. The PGA of America is the largest sports organization in America with over 28,000 members.
