ASU New College assistant professor organizes symposium studying disinformation

Shawn Walker, assistant professor of communication and social technologies with the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Arizona State University's New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, is part of a team of organizers for a symposium on platform lockdown and disinformation.
This two-day symposium aims to address the topical question of how independent, ethical research on dis/misinformation in political communication can be conducted in a corporate environment that favors platform "lockdowns" and the throttling of API access in response to the strategic use of data analytics, bots, trolls, fake news, and dis/misinformation operations in electoral politics, public information campaigns and activist communication.
The symposium, "Locked out of Social Platforms: An iCS Symposium on Challenges to Studying Disinformation," will be held Oct. 27–28 at The IT University of Copenhagen, Denmark. There is a call for papers that must be submitted by July 31.
