Arizona State University School of Music students and faculty are uniting with local community members for a benefit concert to aid the relief efforts in Houston, Texas.

Lisa Blasi, School of Music graduate student, said she was so moved by the devastation that occurred in Houston as a result of Hurricane Harvey that she decided to coordinate a benefit concert to raise funds to help support the people of Texas.

“I have been inspired to see the way in which local musicians and the ASU students and faculty have shown such an eagerness to get involved with this project where they can share their talents for a worthy cause,” Blasi said. “I believe that our efforts together will be stronger and more powerful than our efforts alone.”

The event will showcase 25 to 30 performers who are donating their time and talent for the concert.

School of Music undergraduate and graduate students will be performing piano pieces, flute and piano duets, bassoon and clarinet duets, and voice solos and duets. School of Music Professors Carole Fitzpatrick and Sandra Stauffer will also be performing along with Triple-D, an a cappella group from ASU.

Community members performing include local singing artists, pianists, young aspiring students and a brass band called Fascinating Rhythms.

On the evening of the concert, donations will be taken at the door. All proceeds will be going to the relief efforts in Houston through the American Red Cross.  Any donation great or small is appreciated.
