Kristi Hanno
Kristi Hanno, a Doctor of Musical Arts in performance student in the School of Music, is one of 12 clarinetists from around the world chosen to advance to the semi-finals of the International Clarinet Association (ICA) Young Artist Competition. Hanno will travel to Madrid, Spain, to compete at the ICA annual conference in July.
To make it to the semi-finals, Hanno had to submit unedited recordings of the three selected works. If she makes it to the final round, she will audition with excerpts of any of three pieces chosen for this years competition.
"Everyone who advanced to the semi-finals is already an amazing clarinetist, and the ones who make it to the final round are determined by the judging panel," says Hanno. "The winner usually gets a money prize and a new clarinet."
Hanno says that she is excited to go to Spain and play in front of a large audience. "I always like performing for people, so this is a wonderful opportunity."
Hanno will also travel to Ostend, Belgium, to attend the Belgian Clarinet Academy, where she will receive extensive coaching and perform as a soloist in chamber groups and in a clarinet choir. Her summer will conclude in Germany, as a guest artist at the Saarburg Chamber Music Festival, and she will be performing in and coaching/teaching chamber ensembles.
