Curtis Moeller
Curtis Moeller, a Master of Music in musical theatre performance student in the School of Music, recently attended the week-long Musical Direction Intensive program at Goodspeed Musicals in Connecticut, with funding assistance from Arizona State University.
"The program was an invaluable learning experience for Moeller, who gained a fuller and broader understanding of the field of musical theatre. Unlike instrumentalists and singers, music directors so often work alone, so getting to meet, work with, learn from and hang out with 25 of them was an utter blast," says Moeller.
Moeller's time in Connecticut led to him landing a summer assistant music director position at the Mac-Haydn Theatre in Chatham, New York, thanks to a connection with one of the mentors at Goodspeed, who is the music director for major Broadway musicals. Over the course of the four-month-long summer season, the theatre will produce eight musicals and three shows for children totaling over 150 performances.
Moeller looks forward to using his experience as another networking opportunity. "I'll get to meet and work with a large number of professional actors, designers, directors and choreographers, which will hopefully lead to more jobs, especially since well be only a few hours from New York City," says Moeller.
Moeller will graduate from ASU in May.
