Current Trumpet Performance Majors

Two trumpet ensembles from the School of Music will compete in the live auditions for the National Trumpet Competition, March 19–21, at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

The first ensemble is made up of Doctor of Musical Arts students Alexander Wilson, Jared Hunt and Garrett Klein, and Bachelor of Music students Jon Kaplan and Allan Gutierrez. The group will be performing "“Idea Number Twenty-Four”" by Terry Everson.

Master of Music students Alexandra Kruse, Timothy McCarthy and Joshua Coffey, and Bachelor of Music students Parker Nakamura and Robert Giambruno make up the second ensemble, which comprises all trumpet performance majors. They will be playing “"A Murder of Crows”" by Brendan Collins.

The 10 School of Music students represent the states of Michigan, Georgia, Utah, Minnesota, Alaska, California, Washington and Hawaii.

The competition, which has been running annually for 15 years, has categories for soloists (elementary/junior high, high school, college and young professional) as well as ensembles at the college level. Hundreds of applicants audition by submitting recordings, and only about 10 ensembles are selected to perform in the live rounds.

The School of Music groups will be competing with other ensembles from schools such as Juilliard, Curtis, New England Conservatory, Northwestern and UCLA.
