Tracey Longley-Cook
Tracy Longley-Cook received her Master of Fine Arts in photography in June 2007. She curated the "Constructed Territory" exhibition, which is on view at the Wright State University Stein Galleries in Dayton, Ohio from Oct. 31, 2010 to Jan. 9, 2011.
The show presents a variety of contemporary artists who incorporate maps, cartography and topographical examination into their work. This exhibition investigates geographical concepts from a range of perspectives to promote themes of exploration, navigation and the representation of physical space.
Borrowing from the universal language of maps and cartographic techniques, Longley-Cook feels that the artists in "Constructed Territory" examine and redefine the established conventions of our understanding and connection to place.
This exhibit features 31 artists working in photography, digital and mixed media, sculpture, drawing, printmaking and book arts. Six of the included artists also are Arizona State University School of Art alumni and students, including: current Master of Fine Arts candidate Emily Stergar, and alumni Nick DeFord, Marc Leone, John Mann, Michael J. Marshall and Chad White.
