ASU-led hyperloop team builds test track
AZLoop's mechanical development team has been working on a 50-foot indoor test track to try out magnetic components and braking systems for its part in a SpaceX competition that seeks to develop a futuristic transit system that hits speeds of 750 mph.
The ASU-led team of more than 100 students will be moving to new lab space on the Polytechnic campus in June. Markham construction will then begin work on an outdoor 150-foot open-air test track that will utilize a recently purchased vacuum tank system that will help propel AZLoop's transportation pod.
Some team members have been machining project components on the Poly campus, but a lot of the work is also happening at the ASU Chandler Innovation Center.
The team plans to finish up with pod prototype development next week. After that they will begin building the competition pod through July. August will be dedicated to running the pod on the new open-air test track.
