The Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing is proud to announce that Devoney Looser has been chosen by Allan Reeder to receive this year's Virginia G. Piper Center Faculty Fellowship.
Looser, a professor in the Department of English, will be using the fellowship to complete a biography of Jane and Anna Maria Porter, two sister novelists from the early 19th century who were contemporaries of Jane Austen.
Devoney Looser is the author or editor of six books, including "Women Writers and Old Age in Great Britain," "The Cambridge Companion to Women’s Writings in the Romantic Period" and "Jane Austen and Discourses of Feminism." Her next book, "The Making of Jane Austen," will be published in June 2017 from Johns Hopkins University Press. Her recent writing on subjects ranging from Austen to roller derby to academic life have appeared in The Atlantic, The TLS, the Chronicle of Higher Education, Slate and Entertainment Weekly.
