ASU Arts Students Take On Invincibility

Tempe, Ariz. – Students in the ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University are debuting the institute’s first student-written and produced musical. Based on the legend of St. George, “Invincible” tells the story of a young knight who finds romance to be even more difficult than slaying dragons and invincibility his greatest hindrance. The production features performers, directors and designers from the ASU School of Music, School of Theatre and Film, School of Art and School of Arts, Media + Engineering, totaling more than 40 participants, the majority of whom are undergraduates.

Composer Drew Nichols, graduating from the School of Music in May, is thrilled to see his overambitious senior project turn into a full scale production. “I’m not sure what’s more amazing—the support we’re getting or the creative results we’re finding,” Nichols says. “They’re actually probably connected.”

Director Anna Chassé, a junior in the ASU School of the Theatre and Film, agrees with Nichols assessment, “The only thing more magical than the world created in ‘Invincible’ is the opportunity to put it up on the stage.”

The School of Music has provided the beautiful 500-seat Evelyn Smith Music Theatre on the ASU Tempe campus for three performances May 31 – June 1. The students are raising funds for additional equipment, sets and costumes through IndieGoGo, where an anonymous benefactor is matching donations.
