Be part of the community at ASU Art Museum
TEMPE, Ariz. - Are you interested in participating in free art appreciation classes given by scholars, artists and museum professionals, then sharing this knowledge with others?
Would you like to learn more about cutting edge contemporary art, or artists working in fields such as craft, new media and technologies? Do you want to expand your horizons and at the same time give something back to the Valley community?
The ASU Art Museum, known for its outreach to the community, is looking for additional enthusiastic volunteers in order to maintain its vital educational programs.
ASU Art Museum provides free art education programs to the community, particularly to elementary, middle and high school students. Our highly valued and dynamic group of docents makes this possible by helping visitors to the museum discover art in a new and exciting way.
Volunteer docents lead tours and work in the award-winning gift shop.
The museum offers weekly training sessions that incorporate art appreciation classes, as well as opportunities to work with artists, scholars and museum staff.
No experience is necessary, just bring your enthusiasm for art!
Maggie Lineback, a docent at ASU Art Museum for more than three years, says that in return for a giving a few hours a week, she gets an experience akin to a free college-level art course.
"It's a lot of fun and you meet a lot of great new people," Lineback said. "The kids are great and the hours are really flexible."
