Fresh, sizzling and international: NOW at ASU Art Museum

The ASU Art Museum opens its new major exhibition, NOW: Selections from the Ovitz Family Collection, June 7. The exhibition features works by international contemporary artists, including Richard Hughes and Andro Wekua, who are part of Life on Mars: 55th Carnegie International, which opened in May 2008; and Rachel Harrison, whose works are showcased in the 2008 Whitney Biennial. Other featured artists include Mark Bradford, John Chamberlin, Jamie Isenstein, Katy Moran, Anselm Reyle, Stephen Rhodes, Sterling Ruby and Thomas Zipp.

NOW: Selections from the Ovitz Family Collection presents art fresh from the artists’ studios - dating from 2006-2008 - which illustrate recent trends in contemporary art. Works in NOW: Selections from the Ovitz Family Collection are recent acquisitions to the Ovitz Family Collection and highlight both established and emerging artists. Listed among the world’s top collectors by renowned publications, Michael and Judy Ovitz began their art journey of collecting in the 1970s.

The exhibition runs through Sept. 28, 2008.

The ASU Art Museum, named “the single most impressive venue for contemporary art in Arizona” by Art in America, is part of the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University. The museum is located on the southeast corner of Mill Avenue and 10th Street in Tempe and admission is free. Hours are 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Tuesdays (during the academic year), 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and closed on Sundays and Mondays.
