Three Arizona State University students are finalists for three prestigious international scholarships. The three students are Annie Carson, a finalist for the Marshall Scholarship; Michael Meaney, a finalist for the Mitchell Scholarship; and Jessica Hocken, a finalist for the Schwarzman Scholarship.
Annie Carson, Marshall Scholarship
Annie Carson (at left), a senior in Barrett, the Honors College and a Flinn Scholar, is a finalist for the Marshall Scholarship. The Marshall Scholarship provides the opportunity for 40 students in the United States to receive an advanced degree in the United Kingdom. If Carson is awarded the scholarship, she will pursue a Master of Arts degree in philosophy, politics, and economics of health at University College London, followed by a Master of Science degree in reproductive and sexual health research at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Carson hopes to become a leader in global maternal health care research and policy.
Michael Meaney, Mitchell Scholarship
Michael Meaney is a finalist for the Mitchell Scholarship. The Mitchell Scholarship pays for students to earn a master’s degree in Ireland. Meaney graduated from the Mary Lou Fulton Teacher’s College at ASU with a master’s of secondary education. He currently is a manager of Education and Workforce Innovation in the Office of the President at ASU. If selected, Meaney will pursue a Master of Science degree in education and training management at Dublin City University.
Jessica Hocken, Schwarzman Scholarship
Jessica Hocken, a senior in the W. P. Carey School of Business and Barrett, the Honors College, is a finalist for the Schwarzman Scholars Program. The Schwarzman Scholars Program supports one year of graduate study at Tsinghua University in China. If selected, Hocken would be part of the inaugural class of Schwarzman Scholars.
